E-ink visitor badges you hire for the day.

Reviewed by Daniel Cluderay, director of ONDRAFT LTD · Published 2026-09-06

The product is a 250×122 three-ink panel in a white bezel: brick red, black, e-paper white. We compile the face in Cleckheaton and you hire it for named dates or buy it to keep. It is not a 6-inch door scheduler and it is not a four-colour photo badge.

Two objects. Do not mix the millimetres.

A worn badge is a small landscape film at handshake height. A door display is a mounted status register at eye height for a corridor. Joan’s shop sells both under one ePaper feeling. We will not. This pillar is the chest. The door essay is a different URL, and it does not take a card because we have no public display SKU.

Two hundred and fifty by one hundred and twenty-two is closer to a business card than to a phone. Joan’s visitor badge, as of 6 September 2026 on getjoan.com/shop/joan-epaper-badge/, is a 4-inch portrait at 528×768 with four colours and a photo. Both are e-paper. They are not interchangeable in a crate. Mixing them in one sentence is how a buyer receives a panel they cannot read at coffee distance.

Software on this site compiles the 250×122 face. It does not become a door OS because the word e-ink appeared. If you needed a corridor panel, read the displays essay and then wait, or buy Joan’s 6-inch class hardware on their site with their licence. Do not email us a purchase order for a SKU that is not on /pricing/.

A ten-badge hire and a two-hundred-badge buy use this same film. Quantity is a number. The compiler does not fork because the PO is bigger.

The face compiler

The designer is a compiler: 250×122, three inks, no grey. Brick red is brick red. Uploaded orange is a fight. Simplify marks to fills. If the preview is unreadable, the lanyard will be unreadable. We programme that grid at Premier House, Bradford Road, Cleckheaton — ONDRAFT LTD, Companies House 17265335.

Red is expensive on this budget. Spend it on MEMBER, VISITOR, SPEAKER, HOST, CONTRACTOR. Black carries the name. White is the field. A decorative stripe that eats the surname fails the handshake test: arm’s length, coffee in the other hand, first name spoken without squinting.

QR lives on the right when you want a follow-up. Black modules on e-paper white scan at arm’s length. We programme the code with the rest of the face. A sticker overlay that peels mid-session is the failure mode we skip.

The same visual family shows up in Dark Store hardware tools. That is a compiler note, not a warehouse advert. Daniel Cluderay reviews this copy and wears the kit on Tuesday chapter mornings. First person is allowed because it is true. BNI looks exist because we sit in a chapter. It is not an official BNI International partnership.

Ship-state, not a USB stick in the post

Some digital-badge offers mail a blank device and a cable. We compile here. Names land by import, paste, or one-by-one. Role bars are templates. Magic links set QR if you want guests to pick a destination. We write the three inks, charge the cells, label bezels so a greeter can match hardware to a list, and pack foam and a prepaid return for hire.

Lobby-state is a tablet pushing a face over Bluetooth after the guest exists in the foyer. Joan’s public badge materials have described that loop in about ten seconds, with an LED confirm. Fair, if you run that lobby every weekday. Our hire loop is the opposite clock: the image is on the film when you open the box.

During an active hire window we can often rewrite a face without a return post. Owned devices keep the compiler after year one for thirty pounds per month per account. Hire faces belong to the dates you paid. When the window ends, the crate comes back so the next organiser can have a slot.

Courier time from West Yorkshire is part of the product. A London morning still needs a working day of travel plus our compile queue. Scottish highlands need more. Do not treat us like a same-day print shop next to the venue. That shop still exists. It prints paper.

What arrives, and what you still have to bring

Inside a hire box: charged badges, names on the 250×122 face, white bezels, role bars as designed, QR if you added it, foam so screens do not rattle on the M62, prepaid return. The longer unpack is the what-arrives guide. This pillar only needs the physics.

Lanyards and clips in a brand colour are usually yours. Say so at booking if the cord is non-negotiable. A bezel in a pocket is not a visitor badge. Handshake distance requires chest height.

No automatic spares. Count walk-ins. No foyer printer. No BLE lobby tablet we operate. If your reception already has someone else’s badge radio, keep those fleets separate. Two compilers on one radio is a debugging hobby.

Bought devices ship once, without a return label. Year one of the account platform is included. Then thirty pounds per month per account for the compiler to stay on. Custody follows the invoice. Hired units in a drawer are not silently owned.

Hire maths you can put on a purchase order

Quantity × calendar days × £6 plus £20 postage out and back. Ten badges for two days is £140 including postage — the chapter-table example we print because we use that size. Twenty-five for one visitor morning is £170 including postage. Fifty for a conference day is £340 including postage. Hours in the room do not matter. Dates on the invoice do.

One-badge hire exists if you only need to see the film in your light. That is a proof, not a meeting. Kit shortcuts are 1, 10, 25, and 50. Checkout will quote higher. Email hire@inkbadgehire.com above the usual field if you need a single dispatch for a large list.

Deposits on kits are holds, not the hire total. If Stripe is live, you can pay a deposit on the site. If it is not, you get an invoice. A booking request is not a reservation until we confirm dates. Physics includes vans.

We ship UK-wide from Cleckheaton. The published twenty pounds is the UK hire out-and-back figure. If you are outside the United Kingdom, email before you assume the number. We do not run a thirty-city landing-page farm.

Buy when the cupboard beats the label

£80 per device plus £20 postage once. Five owned badges are £420 including postage, year one of platform included. Weekly chapters often move from hire to buy after they have worn the physics. The buy-versus-hire guide is the spreadsheet. This pillar is the object.

Owned hardware stays in your cupboard. Tuesday’s visitor is Wednesday’s speaker without a return label. The thirty-pound platform fee after year one is the compiler, not a workplace analytics suite.

Mixed models: ten owned for core members, fifteen hired for a visitor-heavy morning. Allowed. Do not assume hired units become owned because they sat in a drawer.

Volume still uses the same £6 day-rate until you switch to buy. A large firm can buy a core fleet and hire overflow for an open day. The film does not change.

One device, many bars — not a second SKU

Attendee, host, guest, exhibitor, VIP, contractor, speaker: templates, not machines. A twenty-five badge hire can mix visitor bars and host faces in one box. You are not buying a second product line because someone arrived as a contractor.

Workplace four-colour badges that hold a thumbnail photograph are a different bet: the guard looks at a face, then at a person. Our bet is the colleague two metres away who needs to say a first name. Photo ID belongs on a security pass if you need it. The visitor badge’s job is to be named.

BNI marks appear in our looks because we wear them. Upload your own chapter artwork under your own licence. Conferences use speaker and attendee templates on the identical panel. A visitor day uses guest and host. The object does not fork.

If you already own a photo-ID e-paper badge from another shop, do not assume our designer writes that panel. Different pixel maps. Different colour counts. Keep fleets separate unless we have measured both films.

Small firm and large firm on the same film

Eight people still receive visitors. A ten-badge hire for a client morning is the smallest meeting that feels like a meeting. You do not need a facilities manager or an SSO workshop. You need dates, a list, and a crate.

Forty to two hundred people is where receptionists appear and printers are resented. Hire a twenty-five kit for the next visitor day. If that morning works, buy a core tray. If it does not, you spent a published number instead of a rollout.

Large firms import a directory, mix contractor and candidate layouts, brand the mark, order volume. Email for dispatch dates above the usual kits. Security, facilities, marketing, IT, and procurement will each mean a different object when they say visitor management. Put the 250×122 panel on the table in the first meeting.

Coworking isolation, floor-plan occupancy, and parking modules are not this SKU. One organiser accountable for the window is the hire assumption. Schools and DBS-heavy sites have extra paper we will not pretend to replace.

Joan’s badge, dated, without a sneer

As of 6 September 2026, Joan’s ePaper badge shop listed a four-colour 528×768 panel, BLE lobby push, NFC, Qi charge, a five-piece minimum at $99 ex tax, and a mandatory visitor-management subscription. Their reusable-visitor-badges essay and visitor-badges pages sit in a workplace OS. We link getjoan.com when we compare. Figures change. About has a corrections note.

Joan’s strengths we will name: a larger photo-capable panel, wireless lobby assign, remote clear, ISO 27001 at Visionect, a mature door-display line. If that is your weekday reception, they are the closer shop. Our strength is a published hire total, a Yorkshire compile, and a 250×122 face you can read while holding coffee.

Events on their side are a use-case survey, not a day-rate crate. Our events are the crate. The Joan-for-events page is the dated comparison for organisers. This pillar is the hardware identity for everyone else.

You can sequence vendors. Hire us for Thursday. Buy their tray for the weekday glass. Mixing jobs in one trial is how you score SSO against a box of bezels.

What this pillar will not pretend

It is not a door token. An e-ink face does not unlock Paxton, HID, or Salto. Visual identity is not access control.

It is not a fire-marshal app, an NDA vault, or SSO. Magic links and People are live. Calendar minting is specified, not live. Door displays have no public SKU and no buy button on this site.

It is not a thermal printer alternative that still lives at reception. If your list is known before the courier, the box is finished. Walk-ins need quantity.

It is not a fluid workplace. It is a film, a bezel, a formula, and a return label. The visitors hub is the workflow. The answers cluster is the questions. This page is the object.

Ink budget: spend red on the bar

Three inks is a budget, not a palette. Brick red is the expensive mark. If you paint a sunset across the surname, the handshake fails. Put red on MEMBER, VISITOR, SPEAKER, HOST, CONTRACTOR. Put the name in black. Leave white as the field so the letters sit like type on paper, not like a poster.

Chapter marks and logos survive if they are fills, not hairlines. Uploaded orange becomes a fight with brick red. Simplify. If the designer preview is muddy, the lanyard will be muddy. We will not ‘fix it in post’ on a 250×122 film.

QR belongs on the right as black modules on white. It is a destination, not decoration. Magic links set that destination when you want guests to pick one. A sticker over the film is the failure we skip because stickers peel.

Handshake distance is the test we keep repeating because it is the only test that matters on a chest: arm’s length, coffee in the other hand, first name spoken without squinting. If you need a photograph for a guard, that is a different pass and a different shop.

Charge tray, USB-C, and multi-day honesty

Kits ship charged. A chapter morning does not need a cable ritual at the door. Multi-day conferences might. USB-C is on the device. Put a pass through the tray on night two if the faces will refresh. Do not treat e-ink as magic that never takes a volt.

Joan’s shop, dated 6 September 2026, lists Qi wireless and a 100 mAh cell with a claimed update count. Different chemistry, different radio. Ours is a cable and a compile. Mixing charge stories in a tender is how Facilities buys a wireless pad for a USB-C bezel.

Owned devices in a cupboard still need a charge culture. Weekly chapters learn this by week three. Hire crates come back to us; we charge for the next organiser. That is the library, not a sale you forgot to make.

A flat badge on Thursday is a list problem and a tray problem. Email the booking reference. Do not Sharpie the film. We can often rewrite during an active hire window if the kit is still yours.

Courier physics from Cleckheaton

Premier House, Bradford Road, Cleckheaton, BD19 3TT. That pin is the compile, not a warehouse poem. Vans leave West Yorkshire. London still costs a working day plus our queue. The Highlands cost more. A same-day print shop next to the venue still exists. It prints paper.

A booking request is not a reservation until we confirm dates. Physics includes vans. If Thursday is immovable, book while the list is still a draft. Faces can catch up during the hire window more easily than a vanished slot.

The twenty-pound postage figure is the UK hire out-and-back number we publish. Outside the United Kingdom, email. We will not invent a thirty-city landing page that pretends we have a crate in every postcode.

Return labels are prepaid on hire. Late returns block the next organiser. That is the library’s only cruelty. Owned hardware does not take a return label. Custody follows the invoice.

Not a door token — visual identity is not Paxton

An e-ink face does not unlock a door. Tailgating is a hinge and a culture. Muster is a fire system. Access control is HID, Salto, or Paxton with a token those vendors sold. We will not sell those sentences as if they were three inks.

A named chest is a weak control and a strong introduction. The colleague two metres away can say Priya. The guard still needs whatever pass your building already issued. Mixing those jobs is how RFPs ask a hire shop for a turnstile.

Joan’s badge shop lists NFC. Fair, if their portal is the weekday loop. Our QR is optional follow-up, not a door radio. Do not pair our bezels into a portal we do not operate.

The visitors hub writes the empty security essay so we do not leave a blank FAQ. This pillar only needs the hardware line: the film is not a credential.

Procurement measures, without a logo wall

Object: 250×122, three inks, white bezel. Operator: ONDRAFT LTD, 17265335. Hire: qty × days × £6 + £20 postage. Buy: £80 + postage, year one platform, then £30 per month per account. Fulfilment: compile, ship, clip, return or keep.

Live software: People, events, designer, magic links, team, billing, returns. Not live: Google, Microsoft 365, or booking tools minting visitor rows. Not sold: door displays, BLE lobby as default, NDA vault, SSO, access control.

Competitors: Joan if you need a weekday photo-ID panel and a workplace OS. Envoy if you need the glass. A print shop if you need same-day paper. Us if you need named e-ink on a date that fits a van calendar.

Risk: courier time, spelling, walk-ins without spares, late returns. Mitigation: book early, count quantity, read the kits unpack, email the booking reference. Do not mitigate by inventing a connector we did not ship.

What the designer will not compile

Grey. Gradients. Photographs. A 528×768 four-colour workplace face. A 1024×758 grey door timetable. Those grids belong to other shops. Ours is 250×122, brick red, black, e-paper white. If the preview is unreadable, we will not magically recover it at Premier House.

A door token, an NDA, an SSO login, a fire-marshal app. The compiler writes a chest. People, events, and magic links are live. Calendar minting is specified. Door pairing is an essay on another URL.

A same-day London walk-in at 08:00 for a list you emailed at 23:40. Courier physics still apply. The print shop next to the venue still prints paper. We will not pretend otherwise to win a booking.

A BNI partnership mark you did not licence. We wear a chapter kit. We are not BNI International. Upload your own artwork under your own licence, or use the looks we already publish.

Events, chapters, and the same film

Conferences use speaker and attendee templates. Visitor days use guest and host. Breakfast clubs use first names large. BNI looks exist because we wear them on Tuesday — featured vertical, not a partnership. Upload your own chapter artwork under your own licence.

A twenty-five badge hire can mix visitor bars and host faces in one box. You are not buying a second SKU because someone arrived as a contractor. One device, many bars.

Sustainable-event copy is the bin: hire returns bezels; paper inserts do not. We are not a certification body. We will not sell a forest. Waste is a number on a return label.

If you already own a four-colour photo badge from another shop, keep that fleet on its own radio. Our designer writes 250×122. Different pixel maps. Different colour counts.

Where to go next

Design a face at actual size before you book if you need to see the three inks. Kits if you need 1, 10, 25, or 50 as a shortcut. Pricing if you need the live total. How it works is the crate loop. What arrives in the hired kit is the unpack.

Answers: what an ePaper visitor badge is, how it works (ship-state versus lobby-state), hire as a trial, reusable thinking on the sustainable vertical. The visitors hub ties office trickle to event cohort.

Door physics, without a shop: /e-ink-displays/. Room status and versus-tablets sit under that essay. No checkout there. If a future SKU exists, that page will grow a price. Until then it is engineering.

Book dates when the list is real. Email hire@inkbadgehire.com with a booking reference when a face is wrong after dispatch. Do not Sharpie the film if the hire window is still live.
