How it works
Hire or buy. Same hardware.
Reviewed by Daniel Cluderay, director of ONDRAFT LTD.
Pick the track that fits. Hire when you need badges for specific dates. Buy when you want to keep
the devices and manage updates from your account. In our experience the same 250×122 e-paper
face is what people actually read across a breakfast table.
1. Quantity and dates
Choose how many badges you need and your hire window. Pricing is qty × days × £6 plus £20
postage out and back. A two-day chapter morning for ten badges is £140 including that
postage. We confirm the kit after we see the dates — a request is not a reservation until
we reply.
2. Names and layouts
Design in the visual designer, pick a template, import a spreadsheet, or paste a list.
Brick red, black, and e-paper white only — the same three inks as the device. Member and
visitor bars, QR, chapter mark, and seat line sit on the face you send us, not on a paper
insert.
3. We ship ready
Charged, labelled, and packed from Cleckheaton. White bezel, MEMBER or VISITOR bar, your
copy, QR on the face. First-hand: we wear this kit on chapter mornings, so the box is
packed the way we would want to open it at 6.45am.
4. Wear, then return — or keep
Hire kits come back with a prepaid return label. Bought devices stay with you; year one of
the account platform is included, then £30 per month per account. Unused consumer purchases
can be cancelled within 14 days of delivery under the
terms. UK consumer protection still applies to faulty devices.
What we actually do in the room
Paper tents and lanyard reprints fail the same way: the name is wrong, the role changed, or
the visitor list grew overnight. E-ink lets us refresh the face without a foyer printer. We
programme the kit here, ship it, and you hand badges out already showing the day.
Import a directory, attach people to an event, and send visitors a magic link for their QR
action. The hardware is the same whether you hired it for Tuesday or bought it to keep. BNI is
a featured vertical because we sit in a UK chapter; it is not a partnership with BNI
International. Conferences and visitor days use the same three inks.

FAQ
How hire and buy work
How long before my event should I order?
Allow programming and courier time from Cleckheaton. Submit dates early; we confirm when the kit is reserved — a request alone is not a hold.
What size is the badge face?
250×122 pixels in brick red, black, and e-paper white — the same three inks as the physical display. What you design is what the device shows.
How do visitors set their QR code?
Import your directory or attach people to an event, then send visitors a magic link to choose their QR action. The face updates before you ship or during the hire window.
How do hired kits get returned?
Pack the badges back in the box and use the prepaid return label included with hire kits. Bought devices stay with you.
Can I update names during the hire window?
Yes for active hire accounts within the hired dates. Face updates stop when the hire window ends unless you buy the hardware.
Is this an official BNI partnership?
No. We feature BNI because we sit in a UK chapter and wear the kit ourselves. Conferences and visitor days use the same hardware and three inks.
